Argentine Encounters (B2-C1)
Argentine Encounters is a reading-intensive course designed for advanced Spanish students who want to immerse themselves in Argentine culture while refining their vocabulary, oral communication, and cultural understanding.
Through videos, literary texts, and authentic materials, this course explores Argentine history, politics, literature, food, music, and language, providing students with a rich cultural context to elevate their Spanish skills. Emphasis is placed on vocabulary building and oral fluency, rather than grammar, as students are expected to have a strong foundation in indicative tenses and some knowledge of the subjunctive.
Over the course of 20-hours, students will engage in short weekly presentations, discussions, and free conversation to apply what they’ve learned, ensuring deeper cultural understanding and linguistic fluency.
Prior to enrolling, students must have tested into the C1 level, be fairly proficient in the indicative tenses (non-subjunctive) and ready to focus on the subjunctive.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
➡️ Engage in discussions about Argentine history, society, and regional cultures
➡️ Read and interpret complex literary texts, including short stories and journalistic crónicas
➡️ Use an expanded vocabulary to discuss travel, politics, and the arts
➡️ Recognize and use elements of Argentine Spanish, including el voseo and lunfardo
➡️ Give short presentations on assigned readings and cultural topics
➡️ Understand and discuss major historical figures, traditions, and artistic movements
If you’re looking for a thought-provoking, culturally immersive course, this class will take your Spanish skills to the next level!
