Mexican Encounters (B2-C1)
Mexican Encounters is a 20-hour group course for advanced Spanish students who want to immerse themselves in Mexican culture while refining their language skills, vocabulary, and oral communication.
Through videos, literary texts, and authentic materials, this reading-intensive course provides deep cultural insights while strengthening critical thinking, discussion skills, and fluency. Topics include Mexican history, art, literature, gastronomy, politics, and social issues, allowing students to engage with real-world discussions in Spanish.
While comparatively little emphasis is placed on grammar, students are expected to have a solid grasp of all indicative tenses and some knowledge of the subjunctive, as the focus is on vocabulary building, discussion, and cultural analysis.
Prior to enrolling, students must have tested into the C1 level, be fairly proficient in the indicative tenses (non-subjunctive) and ready to focus on the subjunctive.
By the end of this course, you’ll be able to:
➡️ Understand and discuss key aspects of Mexican history, politics, and society
➡️ Engage in meaningful discussions about Mexican literature, art, and traditions
➡️ Analyze and interpret authentic texts, videos, and literary works
➡️ Expand and apply advanced vocabulary related to culture, identity, and social issues
➡️ Deliver short weekly presentations in Spanish with confidence
➡️ Strengthen fluency through debates, free discussions, and personal reflections
If you’re looking for a challenging, content-rich course that connects language learning with culture, history, and identity, this class is for you!
