By the end of this course
Each of the ten weeks adds one more trigger, one more context, one more reason the subjunctive shows up. You'll review short materials before class, then use class time to produce it out loud until it stops feeling like a rule you have to remember.
Form the present subjunctive.
Conjugate regular verbs in the subjunctive without stopping to derive them.
Handle the verbs that break.
Use the irregulars, stem-changers, and spelling-change verbs correctly and quickly.
Recognize every trigger.
Use the WEIRDO set: wishes, emotions, impersonal expressions, requests, doubt, and ojalá.
Choose between the two moods.
Tell when a sentence needs the subjunctive and when the indicative is right, and say why.
Say what you want.
Use querer, esperar, and necesitar to express desires and hopes about other people.
Give advice and opinions.
Use the subjunctive to recommend, request, and weigh in without sounding blunt.
Use the conjunctions that demand it.
Handle the conjunctions and impersonal expressions that always take the subjunctive.
Speculate and hedge.
Use the subjunctive for uncertainty, probability, and hypotheticals.
Build advanced sentences.
Use the subjunctive inside longer, layered structures in real conversation.

How many students are in a class?
Group classes typically cap at 10 students, with up to 5 additional priority seats available for Roadmap students. Class length depends on enrollment: sessions are 2 hours with 4 or more students, 90 minutes with 2 to 3 students, and 60 minutes with 1 student.
Is Mastering the Present Subjunctive online or in person?
Both, depending on the term. This course runs live online over Zoom in Winter 2027 and Summer 2027, and in person in Falls Church, Virginia in Spring 2027. Each section has one format, so choose the time and setting that work best for you.
What if I miss a class?
Missing a class doesn't mean falling behind. You'll have access to your course materials so you can stay on track, and you can book a private tutoring session if you'd like one-on-one help with anything you missed.
Do I need the Level Placement Test?
If you're unsure whether Mastering the Present Subjunctive is the right fit, take the Level Placement Test. If you haven't completed B1, one of our B1 courses may be a better place to start.
Do I have to take all four B2 courses?
No. You can take Mastering the Present Subjunctive on its own, in any order. The B2 Exit Exam opens once you have completed all four B2 courses, and the A2 Roadmap bundles them at a lower rate, but each course stands on its own.
What is your refund policy?
Withdraw at least 7 days before your course begins and you'll receive a full course credit, valid for 365 days. We don't offer cash refunds for withdrawals. If Work-Life Spanish cancels your course, you'll receive an alternative option or a full refund.
