By the end of this course
Each of the ten weeks takes one structure that separates textbook Spanish from the real thing. You'll review short materials before class, then use class time to say it out loud until the shortcut you used to take stops sounding right.
Give an instruction.
Use the imperative to tell someone what to do, directly and naturally.
Tell someone what not to do.
Handle the negative imperative and the imperative with reflexive verbs.
Stop repeating the noun.
Use direct object pronouns, and get comfortable with dar and decir.
Combine your pronouns.
Use indirect object pronouns and put both pronouns in one sentence without losing the thread.
Talk about ideas, not things.
Use the neuter article lo to express abstractions Spanish has no other way to say.
Shade your meaning.
Form diminutives and augmentatives, and know what they actually signal beyond size.
Say where an action stands.
Use verbal periphrasis for actions about to happen, in progress, and just finished.
Build longer sentences.
Use relative pronouns to join several ideas into one, the way fluent speakers do.
Master every use of se.
Handle impersonal, reflexive, reciprocal, and accidental se, and tell them apart on the fly.

How many students are in a class?
Group classes typically cap at 10 students, with up to 5 additional priority seats available for Roadmap students. Class length depends on enrollment: sessions are 2 hours with 4 or more students, 90 minutes with 2 to 3 students, and 60 minutes with 1 student.
Is Exploring the Unknown online or in person?
Both, depending on the term. This course runs live online over Zoom in Winter 2027 and Summer 2027, and in person in Falls Church, Virginia in Autumn 2026 and Spring 2027. Each section has one format, so choose the time and setting that work best for you.
What if I miss a class?
Missing a class doesn't mean falling behind. You'll have access to your course materials so you can stay on track, and you can book a private tutoring session if you'd like one-on-one help with anything you missed.
Do I need the Level Placement Test?
If you're unsure whether Exploring the Unknown is the right fit, take the Level Placement Test. If you haven't completed A2, one of our A2 courses may be a better place to start.
Do I have to take all four B1 courses?
No. You can take Exploring the Unknown on its own, in any order. The B1 Exit Exam opens once you have completed all four B1 courses, and the A2 Roadmap bundles them at a lower rate, but each course stands on its own.
What is your refund policy?
Withdraw at least 7 days before your course begins and you'll receive a full course credit, valid for 365 days. We don't offer cash refunds for withdrawals. If Work-Life Spanish cancels your course, you'll receive an alternative option or a full refund.
