Take the Level Placement Test
A Work-Life Spanish class with their teacher at the Falls Church studio
Getting started
I can't commit to a full year of courses. Can I still take classes?

Absolutely! While our Annual Roadmap is designed to help you see faster results, it is not a requirement. You are welcome to sign up for classes individually, learning at a pace that fits your schedule and budget. We are here to support your progress, however you choose to join us.

I'm returning after a long break. Where do I start?

Welcome back! If it has been more than 24 months since you last studied with us, we will ask you to retake our free Level Placement Test so we can place you accurately and restart you at the level the test indicates. It is the simplest way to be sure you pick up at the right spot and keep building real confidence.

The Annual Roadmap
Why commit to a whole year at once?

Committing to a year-long plan offers you a structured and rewarding path to fluency:

  • Stay on track. A consistent study plan lets you organize your life around language learning, keeping you focused and steady in your progress.
  • Lock in savings. Roadmappers get $330 in free annual credits for conversational clubs and $200 off the cost of group courses, for $530 in annual savings!
  • Maximize progress. Avoid long breaks between semesters, which can slow you down. Continuous learning keeps you advancing with confidence.
  • Guarantee your seat. Enjoy priority in the classes you choose and avoid schedule conflicts, so you stay on course.
  • Build community. Develop strong connections with classmates and teachers, creating a supportive, immersive environment that enhances your experience.
  • Practice regularly. Our program provides countless opportunities to engage with real-life speakers, giving you the practice you need to boost your communication skills and confidence.
Can I customize my annual study plan based on my schedule?

Absolutely! You have full flexibility to mix and match in-person and online group courses, private tutoring, and club events, tailoring a plan that aligns with your learning style, schedule, and goals. We are here to help you design the Roadmap that works best for you.

I've already taken half of the classes on my Roadmap. Do I have to retake them?

No, you do not need to retake any courses you have already completed unless you want to! Once you have completed all the courses in your current level and feel ready to advance, you can request your Level Exit Exam. This assessment will gauge your progress, confirm your mastery, and highlight any areas needing extra attention. If further support is needed, we will work with you on a tailored plan that addresses your specific goals and ensures your continued success.

Some students choose to stay in their current level longer and repeat a few of the courses. This is a great idea and really helps reinforce and strengthen your Spanish foundation. Everyone's journey is different, and that is what makes it so great!

How do I sign up for my additional courses when I enroll in the Roadmap?

Once you get your Roadmap credit, you can sign up right away for all of the courses in your current level that are on your Roadmap! This secures your seat in each course and gives you credits to add conversational club events throughout the year. Once you have completed all the courses in your current level and feel ready to advance, simply request your Level Exit Exam. A passing grade will move you up!

Classes and attendance
How many students are in each course?

We cap all courses at 10 students for non-Roadmappers. Once a course reaches 10, only Roadmappers may enter, up to an absolute maximum of 15. Due to high demand, many courses fill up quickly, so do not delay in signing up!

Can I transfer from an online class to an in-person class and vice versa?

Yes! We offer flexible course transfers, allowing you to switch to another course at your level anytime during the calendar year.

What if I fall behind or miss several class sessions?

Do not worry! You can always schedule makeup sessions to catch up and stay aligned with your learning goals. You will also have access to class recordings, the class syllabus, and the class materials to review and complete while you are away.

What is required to successfully pass a course?

Students are highly encouraged to attend at least 8 of the 10 sessions of a group course and to sign up for makeup sessions to review any missed session. This keeps you from falling behind and ensures you take in all of the material taught in each course.

Levels and progress
What happens if I don't pass the Level Exit Exam, or I complete all the courses in my level but I'm not ready to move on?

Do not worry! We will work with you to identify the areas that need improvement and offer either private tutoring or additional group courses to help you master the skills before advancing to the next level. There is a lot to learn in each level, and many students find it incredibly beneficial to take some courses twice.

How do I earn digital badges to show my Spanish competency?
  1. Take our Level Placement Test to determine your current level.
  2. Successfully complete all group courses within the level.
  3. Take and pass our Level Exit Exam.
  4. Earn your digital badge and advance to the next level.
Payments, refunds, and credits
What is your refund policy?

Students are eligible for a course credit, valid for one year, for the full amount they paid for the course. This credit is available to students who withdraw at least 7 days before the start of the class.

If we decide to cancel a course that has been advertised, and for which a student has registered, we will propose an alternative course. If that is not acceptable, a full refund will be given.

Once a course has started, transfers can only be made if the student is in the wrong level. In that case, the student will be transferred to a course at the appropriate level. Same-level transfers, course credits, and course refunds are not allowed once a course has begun.

A 24-hour notice is required to cancel any private tutoring lesson. Failure to provide notice will result in a charge for the lesson.

Private tutoring packages and corporate hours are valid for one year and are non-refundable.

Monthly membership packages are charged each month for a minimum of six months. Credits must be used within the month and do not roll into the next month.

Can I transfer my monthly membership, private tutoring code, or course credits to another student?

Unfortunately, we cannot transfer any services purchased for one student to another. Course credits and private tutoring codes are valid for one year from purchase. Monthly membership credits are valid only for the month they are issued and do not roll over.

How do I redeem my monthly membership credits?

To redeem your credits, simply enter your code in the “Redeem Coupon” box when signing up for a club event. The cost of your selected event will be deducted from your credits, and if there is any remaining balance, you will be charged the difference.

Will my monthly membership credits roll over?

Monthly membership credits are valid for one month and do not roll over. Please be sure to use them within the month so you do not lose them.

Do you offer payment plans?

Unfortunately, we do not offer payment plans at this time. All courses must be paid in full during registration.

Discounts and rewards
Will I be eligible for any other discounts?

Absolutely! We love rewarding our students for their dedication and support. Here is how you can earn more:

  • Free club event. All students are eligible for a free club event by using the code FREECLUB at checkout.
  • Free tutoring. Try a free 30-minute virtual private lesson with the code VIRTUAL30.

Course duration and hours

Adult group courses consist of 10 class sessions. The total course hours vary depending on enrollment: 1 student is 10 total hours (60 minutes per session), 2 to 3 students is 15 total hours (90 minutes per session), and 4 or more students is 20 total hours (120 minutes per session).

Withdrawals and course credit

Students may withdraw from a course and receive a course credit for the full amount paid if the withdrawal request is made at least 7 days before the course start date. Course credits are valid for one year from the date of issuance. Work-Life Spanish does not offer refunds for student withdrawals.

Transfers

Once a course has started, same-level transfers, course credits, and refunds are not permitted. The only exception is if a student has enrolled in the incorrect level. In that case, the student may be transferred to a course at the appropriate level if space is available.

Attendance and course completion

Successful completion of a course requires attendance of at least 8 of the 10 sessions. Students who miss a class are encouraged to schedule a makeup session with their instructor to review the missed material. When a makeup session is completed, the missed class is counted as an attended session for the purpose of course completion. Students with more than two absences that are not completed through makeup sessions will not be considered to have successfully completed the course and may be required to retake it.

Unused enrollment

Students who enroll in a WLS offering or purchase package credits but do not attend sessions or use their credits within the designated timeframe remain responsible for the enrollment. Failure to attend classes does not qualify for refunds, credits, or transfers outside the policies listed above.

Level progression

Each level at Work-Life Spanish includes multiple courses that build upon one another. Students must successfully complete all courses within a level before taking the Level Exit Exam, and must pass the Level Exit Exam before enrolling in the next level.
